Appearance in life
Scale cover of adult female white and elongate, sometimes slightly wider posteriorly, with exuviae at anterior end. Scale cover of immature male elongate and white with apical exuviae, much smaller than that of female.
Morphology
Adult female pupillarial, pyriform or narrowly oval, membranous except for a large perianal sclerotized area. Pygidial lobes absent; plates absent or reduced to barely discernible projections. Vulva large and surrounded by radiating cuticular folds that cover the entire ventral surface of the pygidium. Anus located at centre of pygidium. A few ducts present on the pygidium, marginal or submarginal, short and narrow, totally absent from rest of body. Perivulvar pores present or absent. Stigmatic disc pores present by anterior spiracles, with an accessory group of ducts or duct tubercles present or absent (present in genotype). Antennae each with 2-5 setae.
Second instar female with body variable in shape, pyriform or elongate-oval; pygidium with two pairs of well-developed lobes; plates present or absent. Dorsal macroducts relatively numerous on the pygidium and prepygidial segments on both dorsum and venter.
