Tribus Rugaspidiotini

Diagnostic characters of adult female Rugaspidiotini are: never pupillarial; body usually elongate pyriform; pygidium without any traces of marginal processes (lobes, plates, gland spines and marginal intersegmental scleroses absent); numerous, small, short two-barred ducts scattered on both surfaces, often larger on dorsum than on venter, not segmentally arranged; abdominal disc pores absent; stigmatic disc pores present; prepygidium without plates or duct tubercles; antennae each with two or more setae; intersegmental folds absent; crenulae present or absent; on a wide range of hosts, not normally on Gramineae; world-wide distribution (Ben-Dov, 1990c; Takagi, 1969).

None of the diaspidid genera covered in this work are placed in tribe Rugaspidiotini.
Members of this tribe may be distinguished from members of the Odonaspidini by: 2 setae present on each antenna; no intersegmental folds or marginal scleroses between abdominal segments 6/ 7 or 7/ 8; paratergal areas weakly or not indicated. Members of the Odonaspidini have: only one seta on each antenna; intersegmental folds present on both surfaces; 1 or 2 marginal scleroses present between abdominal segments 6/ 7 and/ or 7/ 8; and paratergal areas clearly delineated.
