Divisio Neoptera

Neopterans have separate movable sclerites in the wing articulation that allow the wings to be folded back along the body at rest, except in secondarily specialized forms. Unlike the other pterygote Divisions (Ephemeroptera and Odonata), neopterans have wing venation with fewer or no triadic veins or anastamosing cross-veins; also their larvae live in a wide variety of habitats, not just in fresh water. Metamorphosis in the Neoptera is slight to complete.
